BioMarkt Dinkelähre Family Owned

Veteran Of The Bio-Scene

BioMarkt Dinkelähre History

Across 500 square metres of retail space you will find an extensive range of everything your heart may desire: from baked goods to cheese and meat, from fruit and vegetables to wine and natural cosmetics. Out beginnings, however, were much smaller though.

Josef Märtl called himself a “veteran of the organic movement”. The road from the grain to the finished bread roll was more familiar to him than many others. Following his agricultural training and working as a part-time farmer, he retrained to become an office management assistant. Since 1988 he led his agricultural business according to the Bioland standard.

To this day, the spelt cultivated on the family owned fields is turned into baked goods by the Strobl Bakery and then sold in Dinkelähre supermarket.

Organic Growth

Organic foods always held an appeal for the born Oberpfälzer and his wife Maria, and hence the family entered the organic trade back in 1994 with their small farm shop „Dinkelähre” with approx. 30 square metres of space. But soon after that space was no longer sufficient:

  • As early as 1996 the shop moved to Neumarkt, to the Kohlenbrunnermühle area, increasing the retail space to almost 100 square metres.
  • In response to the positive growth, the family further increased the space for the organic supermarket to 160 square metres, opening a new shop in Zimmererstraße.

Dinkelähre is a genuine family business and will remain so. The „children“ Florian Märtl and Teresa Häußinger have already been working in the business for some time. Since Josef Märtl died in 2017, the business has been led together by Maria Märtl and her son Florian Märtl.
